Two nights instead of one
You sleep before you start walking, not after a two-hour drive.
Bookable at a single traveller
The one climb here that does not need a second person, though a solo booking adds MYR 500 for transport.
A group of ten at most
Stated on the listing, and small enough that the pace stays sensible.
A ten in the morning start
Rather than a pickup in the dark.
Every park charge inside the fare
Permit, guide, insurance, meals, certificate and both nights.
Three days, two nights, and why the extra night matters
Every guided climb of Mount Kinabalu summits before dawn on the morning after you walk up. What changes between the formats is what happens either side of that. On a two-day climb you are collected at six in the morning, driven two hours, and start walking having already been awake for hours. On this one you have a night on the mountain’s doorstep first.
That is the whole product. It is the same trail, the same huts and the same 4,095 m summit; what you buy for the extra $280 is arriving with your legs fresh and a night at altitude behind you. For anyone who worries about the climb rather than the cost, it is the version to book. The rest of the Mt Kinabalu tour are shorter and cheaper.
A 12 km round trip at altitude
You walk roughly 12 km round trip, with meals, entrance fees and accommodation all included and a guide beside you the whole way. Shelters sit at intervals where you can stop, refill water and let the group regroup. The route is the standard one: Timpohon Gate to the huts at 3,272 m, then the checkpoint at 3,668 m and the granite above it.
No hour-by-hour timetable is published for this departure, so none is invented here. What the shape of the day looks like is set out on the climbing page.
Who this suits
Climbers who would rather arrive rested than save a day, anyone travelling alone, and small groups who want a capped party rather than whoever else booked. It suits a first-timer who is genuinely unsure about the altitude, because the extra night is the cheapest insurance against it.
Who should book something else
On a tight schedule or a tighter budget? The two-day climb reaches the same summit for $280 less and takes a day off your trip. Want more than the walk-up? The Walk The Torq climb adds the via ferrata.

Meeting at Kinabalu Park rather than your hotel
The meeting point is Timpohon Gate, at Kinabalu Park in Kundasang, and the trip ends back there. Hotel pickup and drop-off is included on a seat-in-coach basis, and hotels outside the Kota Kinabalu city and 1Borneo areas add MYR 30 per person. The published start time is ten in the morning.
Know before you go
- It is non-refundable. Settle your dates first, then book.
- A solo booking adds MYR 500 per person for transport. Two travellers is where the fare makes sense.
- Ages 18 to 50 on this listing. Outside that band, look at the private two-day climb, which runs 17 to 80.
- Maximum ten travellers, so a large group needs to book early or split.
- The listing asks for a strong fitness level. Walk hills with a loaded pack for a few weeks first.
- Bring the full kit list. This operator publishes it down to plasters for blisters, and it is the most detailed of the four.
What climbers say about the three-day
“We wanted to test ourselves on Mount Kinabalu and went with a group of friends. The price varies a lot depending on which package you pick, so read them properly. Every question we asked before the climb got answered.”
Tripadvisor reviewer · Group of friends · January 2026
“Responsive from the first enquiry right through the trip itself. We had a few requests along the way and they were all accommodated. John made a second Kinabalu hike as seamless as the first.”
Tripadvisor reviewer · Repeat climber · July 2024
“John Tan arranged our three-day, two-night Mount Kinabalu hike and the whole thing ran without a hitch. It was my second time up and I would use them again.”
Tripadvisor reviewer · Repeat climber · May 2024
“A friend who had climbed with them before recommended them, and the service held up. John even managed to secure us a private dormitory on the mountain.”
Tripadvisor reviewer · Group of friends · April 2024
“Very well managed. They did their best to accommodate what we asked for and everything was sorted out properly. A satisfying trip from start to finish.”

Questions about this climb
What does the extra night actually buy?
A night before you start walking rather than a 6am pickup and a two-hour drive on the morning of day one. You arrive rested, which is the single biggest thing you can change about how the summit push feels.
Can I book this for one person?
Yes. This listing takes a minimum of one traveller, which the private climbs do not. A solo booking carries an MYR 500 per person transport supplement.
How big is the group?
Ten travellers at most, so the pace stays sensible. Sabah Parks separately caps guide ratios at one to five on the standard summit trail.
Where does it start?
At Kinabalu Park in Kundasang, with the meeting point at Timpohon Gate. Hotel pickup and drop-off on a seat-in-coach basis is included, and an outskirt hotel adds MYR 30 per person.
Is three days too slow?
If your leave is tight, yes, and the two-day climb does the same summit for $280 less. The third day buys rest rather than distance.
How much walking is there?
Roughly 12 km round trip. It is the same summit and the same trail as the two-day format; the difference is how much sleep you get either side of it.
